                                                                Design & technology is about everything man-made, and through its efforts to stimulate the intelect and imagination, draws upon many other aspects of the curriculum. Because the made world is dependant upon technological development, it is vital that pupils are given the opportunity to experience, and learn about, the developments which are constantly affecting their future, whilst being encouraged to appreciate the quality which underpins these developments.

The DFEE (Department for Education & Employment) and QCA (Qualification and Curriculum Authority) have for some time endevoured to promote educational development in the areas of new technology. DATA (Design & Technology Association), on their behalf, is actively developing opportunities for retraining, making materials available and easily accessible, and offering guidance to teachers.
